Meet the Instructor- Denise Duquette

Tai Chi – Qigong – Yoga Instructor

Denise “Dee” Duquette is a 1974 graduate of West Chester State College in Pennsylvania, and she has experienced fitness trends as they have come and gone.  As she was retiring from 30 years of teaching high school classes in health and physical education in New Jersey, Dee decided to seek holistic/alternative healing for numerous injuries.  As a recipient of natural and holistic medicine, including yoga and Reiki, she experienced significant benefits and chose a path to begin learning and teaching these practices to others.

In 2003, Denise became certified as an RYT Sivananda Hatha Yoga Teacher and Reiki III Practitioner. She moved to Florida in 2011 and quickly became certified in and enjoys teaching Qigong, Tai Chi (Yang style) and Tai Chi (Fan).

The following interview with Dee will help you get to know her background, education and her passion for helping our community!

Q-Tell us about your role at LBC?

A-I teach Tai Chi.

Q-Where did you receive your training?

A-Tai Chi (Dr. Aihan Kuhn – TCM doctor and obgyn) Sarasota, Florida

Q-How long have you done this work?

A-7 years

Q-What benefits does your modality, treatment or therapy offer to patients/clients?

A-Lowers blood pressure and inflammation, improves muscular strength, endurance, balance, flexibility, mental clarity, focus, breath, and peace.

Q-What inspired you to enter this type of work?

A-I had studied and became certified in yoga and Qigong, so it was a natural progression to learn and teach Tai Chi.

Q-Is there a mantra or quote you live by?

A-“Ancient practices for today’s lifestyle.”

Q-What would you say is the greatest hindrance to health in the current age?

A-Lack of movement

Q-If you could give one piece of advice to every single human being, what would it be?

A-Get out into the fresh air at least once a day.

Q-What is the core motivation for what you do?

A-To see the calm, peace and joy in people’s faces.

Q-What do you consider the best kept secret to health is?

A-Early to bed, early to rise. Also, eat from the aisles where everything comes from the earth and isn’t altered by man.
