Review the benefits of whole bananas: The Overlooked Banana Peel
Curious about eating banana peel but not sure where to start? Blending it into a whole banana blueberry smoothie is one of the easiest (and tastiest) ways to enjoy it.
Ingredients
- 1 ripe organic banana, washed well (peel included)
- 1 cup frozen wild blueberries
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- ½ teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
- 1 cup unsweetened flaxseed, almond, oat, or coconut milk
Optional Add-Ins
Customize your smoothie with one or more of these:
- 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
- ½ teaspoon turmeric + a pinch of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon lion’s mane mushroom powder
- A small handful of walnuts
- A spoonful of almond or other nut butter (not peanuts)
- A small handful of spinach or kale
Directions
- Wash the banana well and trim both ends.
- Roughly chop the banana—peel and all.
- Add all ingredients to a blender.
- Blend on high for 60–90 seconds until smooth and creamy.
- Enjoy immediately
Helpful Tip
If you’re new to eating banana peel, start by using half of the peel and gradually increase the amount as your digestive system adjusts to the extra fiber.
